I first met Margaret 15 - 18 years ago when she joined my Mah Jong group at the invitation of a mutual acquaintance. Then when she retired she also came to Dedham WEA courses with me and later on to NE Essex Arts Society lectures and visits. We both took part in the annual Dedham Village Quiz with other WEA members and won it three times in a row, coming second on several other occasions. We were once told by some particularly bad losers that we only won because we were all old (this was about 12 years ago!) and obviously spent all our time sitting watching tv. Little did they realise how wrong they were! We generally went to the cinema or theatre around once a week and on lots of outings, either with groups or on our own. We also went on holidays together to Norway, Vienna and twice to Italy - to Puglia and also to Pompeii and Herculaneum. If things had gone according to plan we would have been enjoying the sunshine and exploring Crete and the ruined palace at Knossos in April. Margaret was always boundlessly enthusiastic about anything to do with history and we shared so many interests. If I could wave a magic wand and bring her back, I would happily do so even if it meant us missing the chance for us to visit Crete. I shall miss her and the friendship we shared more than I can say and look back on it and everything we did together with the fondest of memories. Goodbye my fried!
